The Icknield Way
Never heard of it? Neither had I until I picked up Hugh Thomson’s ‘The Green Road into the Trees’ (Preface 2012). Hugh Thomson is best known as a travel writer from exotic places, but this book focusses on this unknown ancient path which stretches from the Dorset Coast nr Chesil Beach, and Seahenge in Norfolk. It does what no trunk roads to in the UK, and leads the walker from west to east traversing of the south’s most exquisite countryside. I am of necessity reading just a short, abridged portion of the first chapter.
