Harbour Swim, August 2013
Every year the Salcombe Regatta features a mass swim across the widest part of the estuary. It’s timed with the tide, and this year took place around 8am on August 9, 2013. I made an audio essay of the event. The narrative gets lost in the distance between the swimmers on one side of the Estuary and the spectators on the other, but nevertheless it’s quite a fun audio journey. Here we start at the car park, walking through the echoey village gathering people as we go. This is a huge family event, this year drawing around 300 swimmers and at least 700 watchers.
