Play Blackpool Sands, early November

Sometimes mid-November feels like spring. Idled part of the day at Blackpool Sands, a honeypot beach at the very end of Start Bay. In the winter sun, masquerading as something much warmer, the beach shop and the odd visitor in their winter coats seem incongruous, the Venus Café looking like something on a beach in the Bahamas.

Start Point light is only barely visible here, with the low winter sun gleaming on the reasonably calm surface of a slightly bored sea. Interestingly, the surf sounds quite excited, even though the calmness you can see here is reflected in the precise even breathing of the breaking waves. There were relatively few periods in the surf, and the sound belies the relative non-height of the waves.
